What is a postpartum doula?
A postpartum doula fills in the family health care gap.
I am a trained professional that comes to your home after the birth of your baby(s). This is more convenient and intimate for you to get support in your natural environment. You don’t have to worry about rushing out the door with baby in tow to talk with someone about how to get more sleep, how to breastfeed, or simply how to get a shower in. Instead I am there to see your arrangements and schedules, offer assistance, and guide you every step of the way as a new parent. I offer insight and education about your newborn(s), feeding, baby soothing skills, bonding, secure attachments, and coping skills.
Hillery took the time to really connect with me and my daughter. She helped me out with the breastfeeding struggle we faced that led to mastitis. She listened, truly listened to my problems and gave advise that nobody else told us about. She not only helped with breastfeeding, but bathing, swaddling, and soothing our little girl. I am so happy that I was “Doula’d”, I couldn’t have breastfed successfully without her. She is a must have for parents!
Are you concerned about becoming a new parent?
Sometimes the physical or mental health of a new parent or baby is compromised. As parents, you might find yourself needing more help at home than you expected. Research tells us that parents who have support and feel secure and cared for have greater breastfeeding success, greater self-confidence, less postpartum depression, and a lower incidence of abuse than those who do not.
