Hillery Lyen Warren, Birth Doula
My name is Hillery Lyen Warren, and welcome to The Family Nest located in Glenwood Springs, CO. I found a passion for working with young children and their parents at 16 years of age on the Ute Reservation in southern Colorado. It was at an early age that I decided to dedicate my life to helping others. So years ago, I acquired an Associated Degree in Liberal Arts for Early Childhood Education and taught for over 10 years in many schools in Colorado.
My unexpected path to doula care
In my late 20’s I acquired my commercial driver’s license, plowed snow in trucks 800 times my size, and ran heavy equipment for six years, can you believe it? It’s still crazy to me to think back on. What a different career, huh? Well, in my last year of plowing McClure Pass I rolled the plow truck and had what you might call ‘a near death experience’. It was that experience that made me realize life is too short to not be doing what I love.
So I set out to fulfill my vision of becoming a midwife only to discover during my training that my passion had transformed into birth doula care. I gained a Doula Certification through DONA (Doulas of North America International), quit my very well paid job to follow my heart, and started offering our community birth doula services and placenta encapsulation in 2014.
Life as a doula
From the very first birth I attended I felt a door open, supporting families came naturally to me, and I knew right then, being a birth doula is what I wanted. I found the purpose behind my labor support is to promote healthier outcomes for our children and to increase the bonds between family members. When parents are given more attention, support, and realistic expectations during this time, there are everlasting positive impacts.

Want to know more about me?
I think spring and summer is where it’s at, baby! The longer sunny days, the warmth, rafting, wildcrafting, biking, working in my garden, canning food, and camping are few of my favorite activities. I am a Colorado Native and don’t know what I would do without sunshine on my face.
I am blessed to be married to my best friend and have a piece of paradise on the Roaring Fork River. We share our blissful acre with our chickens, cat, dog, ‘Road Rash’ the deer, the wild bunnies, a turkey or two, and an occasional ‘Big Bear’ walking up the driveway. I feel very blessed for my life and I love sharing my gifts and blessings with others, which is the reason I love my Doula work so much.
